Directions:

1. You will work with your group to investigate the Victorian time period.

2. You are responsible for your assigned role.
(History Expert, Fashion Expert, Etiquette Expert, Entertainment Expert)

3. Use the link above to locate information for your specifice role. If you want to use Google to locate more information, you can.

4. Take notes that deal with your specific question. You will have two days to
research and prepare to teach your group. One day will be to teach your group. You will have 15 minutes each person.

5. Teach your information to your group. It is your choice on how you present the information to your group.

6. You must take notes when others in your group present their roles. Keep your notes!

7. Be prepared for a small quiz on the information that you learned.

Assigned Roles and Questions:

History Expert:
What social conditions were of a concern during Dickens’ time?

Fashion Expert:
What fashions were in style for men, women, and children?

Etiquette Expert:
How were adults and children expected to behave?

Entertainment Expert:
What did children and adults do for fun?

Groups will present on November 10, 2011.

Anthology of Poetry Contest

Anthology of Poetry Assignment:

Directions:

1. Brainstorm a list of five possible topics that you would like to write about. You will need to show this list to your teacher before moving to step 2.

Due: October 10, 2011 5 pts.

2. Select your topic that you would like to write about. Complete the Poetry Writing Practice paper that your teacher gave you. You will need to show this to your teacher before you move to step 3.

Due: October 12th 10 pts.

3. Begin writing your rough draft of your poem following the requirements that your teacher gave you. Remember to refer to your rubric for grading. Once you are finished, show your teacher your poem.

Due: October 13th 5 pts.

4. Revise the poem as needed. Once you are done with final copy, turn your typed poem into your teacher for a grade.

*If you do not think you have enough class time, you may work on it at home.

Due: October 14th. 60 pts.

** In the event we have Beaver Ponds on the 14th, you may turn your poem in on Monday, October 17th.

You are now ready to begin your poetry web journey. All materials will be kept in your poetry folder. Write your name on all papers that you include in your folder. You will turn papers in during each step. Due dates are listed for each step as well as how many points each assignment is worth.

Steps:
1. Click on the links below to practice figurative language/literary terms. You will need to show your teacher your word play scores before you move on to the figurative language quiz. Take the figurative language quiz and show your teacher your score. You need to do this before moving on to step 2! You will be given points for showing your teacher your scores. If you finish early, move on to step 2.

Make sure that you use spell check. Points will be deducted for spelling errors. You will need to place these poems in your poetry folder.

c. Choose two other poems of your choice. Follow the same steps above and include in your poetry folder. Be sure to include a title for each of your poems and your name. 10 pts.

d. Select one of your poems to post and comment on blogger. You will need to log in as anonymous if you do not have a google account. Make sure you give your name and class period in the comments section so you may receive credit. You may copy and paste your poem into the comments section. 5 pts.

e. Comment on one other person's poem. Comments will be checked by the teacher before posting. Do not forget to put your name and class period in the comments section so you will receive credit. 5 pts.
